Statement in Response to Social Media Comments

Stafford and Surrounds Clinical Commissioning Group has today reiterated its position in response to significant speculation across social media sites this week.

Concerns have been raised on both Twitter and Facebook about intentions around the Trust Special Administrators recommendations and the dissolution of the Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust, which the Secretary of State approved in February.

In response to the comments made the Clinical Commissioning Group's position is absolutely clear:-

  • We support the dissolution of the Trust as soon as is practicable and the implementation of the Trust Special Administrators model over the next few years.
  • We understand that the Secretary of State has asked for a further review of Obstetric Led Maternity at Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust and we will work with NHS England, the body tasked with the review, on this.
  • We understand this review will take place later in the year. However we also understand that the work to dissolve the Trust can still go ahead as planned.
  • Until such time as the further review of obstetric led maternity is complete and the outcomes of that review are known, maternity services will continue to be provided at Stafford Hospital.

We are unaware of any proposals which change the requirements of the Secretary of State and will continue to work with our partners and University Hospital of North Staffordshire and Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals Trust to implement the elements of the recommendations which it is possible to implement, to ensure safe, quality services for our patients.
