Health leaders want patient views on how to look after your heart

Health leaders throughout much of Staffordshire want to hear about the experience of patients receiving treatment for a wide range of heart conditions.

An online cardiology survey has been launched by the three CCGs that cover Stafford and its surrounding areas, Cannock Chase, Lichfield, Burntwood, Tamworth and South Staffordshire. Cariology covers a wide range of heart conditions.

Heart disease is a major cause of death among under 75s, but many of the deaths could be preventable.

Now the area’s CCGs want to ask patients about their experiences of service and understand how they could be changed.

Dr Mo Huda, Chair of Cannock Chase CCG said: “While we want to understand how current patients access services, it is also important that people learn how to look after their heart and how to avoid heart disease wherever possible.

“The most important factor is to live a lifestyle that avoids things we know have a direct link to developing heart conditions. These include not smoking, eating a healthy balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight and keeping active.

“These simple measures also help lower the chances of developing a range of conditions including Type 2 Diabetes, kidney disease and some cancers.”

It is particularly targeting patients, family members and carers, with experience of the following conditions:

  • Heart Failure
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Stable Angina
  • Unstable Angina
  • Atrial Fibrillation
  • Arrhythmia

Dr Huda said: “We encourage patients, family members and carers to share their experiences by completing this survey. This will allow us to consider suggestions to further improve services to ensure it meets the needs of patients.”
